The case against former President and current President Ranil Wickremesinghe, involving charges of misusing state funds, is scheduled to be heard tomorrow, October 29th, at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The case stems from an alleged misuse of 16.9 million Sri Lankan rupees in state funds during a 2023 official visit to the United Kingdom when he served as President.
President Wickremesinghe was ordered to be remanded in custody in August concerning this financial irregularity, but was later released on bail by court order.
Tomorrow’s hearing is crucial as the court is expected to make a decision on the next legal steps. Public and legal sector attention is heavily focused on the upcoming phase of this case, involving a leader holding the country’s highest office.
