The son of Aruna Shantha Vidanagamage, also known as ‘Middeniye Kajja’, who was murdered on February 19th, has vehemently refuted claims made by the acting Police Media Spokesperson linking his father to the 2012 murder of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen. In a social media post, Kajja’s son labeled the police statement as “completely false.”
Police had announced that Kajja’s ex-wife, Amisha Bethmi, identified him as the person who entered the car that pursued Thajudeen’s vehicle, based on features from CCTV footage. However, Kajja’s son strongly questions this assertion, raising several critical points:
Why Were Relatives Not Interviewed?
Kajja’s close relatives state that he was employed in the Nugegoda Hettiawatta area (Road No. 176) in 2012. They question why police did not show the CCTV footage to his siblings to confirm if the person in the video was their brother and record their statements.
Statements Taken Only from Suspect Ex-Wife
Kajja’s relatives accuse the police of solely obtaining a statement from his ex-wife, who left him and their three children for another man. They also find it ludicrous that the identification in the CCTV footage was based merely on the individual “holding both hands on their back.”
Suspicion of Ex-Wife and Lover in Kajja’s Murder
Kajja’s siblings further allege their suspicion that his ex-wife, Amisha Bethmi, and her illicit lover, Sampath Ramanayake, are connected to the murders of Kajja and two of their children. They cite evidence that Sampath Ramanayake, Amisha Bethmi’s lover, was a key member of ‘Bako Saman,’ the main suspect arrested in Indonesia for Kajja’s murder.
Furthermore, the relatives claim to possess clear evidence that Kajja’s ex-wife and her lover, who left Kajja and their three children to go to Dubai, were with Bako Saman.
In light of this, Kajja’s relatives strongly assert that the statement linking Kajja to the Wasim Thajudeen murder is false. Instead, they contend there is clear evidence connecting his ex-wife and her lover to the murders of Kajja and two of their children.
Kajja’s son explicitly stated, “There is clear evidence that my mother, Amisha Bethmi, and her illicit lover, Sampath Ramanayake, are connected to the murder of my father and the murders of my brother and sister.”
As of yet, there has been no response from the police or the government regarding these serious allegations and statements.
