Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththi Kumara yesterday (29) issued a stern order to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to expedite the investigation concerning former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and present the connected suspects to court.

Public activist Asela Sampath has strongly condemned the severe protests currently being launched by several civil organizations against Galigamuwe Gnanadeepa Thero and their requests for the removal of his sermons from media channels. The activist accuses these actions of being "childish and degenerate acts that insult Buddhism."

The case against former President and current President Ranil Wickremesinghe, involving charges of misusing state funds, is scheduled to be heard tomorrow, October 29th, at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.

The public questioning of a suspect arrested in Maharagama yesterday, in connection with the murder of Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lasantha Wickremasekara, has sparked strong condemnation from President's Counsel Saliya Pieris and the Professional Web Journalists' Association. Both parties allege that releasing "voice cuts" of suspects to the media compromises police professionalism and could jeopardize future trials.
