Committing his personal celebrations to the greater public good, Attorney-at-Law Tharaka Nanayakkara has made a remarkable contribution to fulfilling the educational dreams of children in celebration of his 40th birthday. He arranged for the donation of essential school supply kits to 2,000 students at Sri Siddhartha Maha Vidyalaya in Dikkuubura, Galle, and also oversaw the construction of a much-needed sanitation and toilet system for the school. The total expenditure for this initiative exceeds Rs. 1.8 million.
This community service effort comes at a time when the rising cost of educational materials is placing a severe financial strain on parents. The event was held with the participation of several prominent figures from the political and business sectors. Among the dignitaries present were former Minister Chandima Weerakkody, former Governor Hemakumara Nanayakkara, former MPs Thilak Amarasuriya and Oybert Alwis, and SJB Galle District Organizer Gayan Ginige. Businessman Ravi Kalansuriya also extended his support to this noble cause.
Principal Dulip Indika and the academic staff, who spoke at the event, pointed out that investing money typically spent on private parties and functions into the future of schoolchildren sets a great example for the entire society. This step, taken by Attorney-at-Law Tharaka Nanayakkara to uplift the school’s infrastructure, in addition to donating supplies, has been highly commended by the parents and residents of the area. Gamini Upul Shantha and Namal Prasanga Abeysekara also contributed to this charitable endeavor.
