A 45-year-old man from Kandy has reportedly died by suicide after gambling at the luxurious five-star Cinnamon Life hotel in Colombo.
Police stated that the man had checked into the hotel several days prior. Hotel staff became concerned when his room remained locked from the inside and notified the police. Upon investigation, police discovered the man had died by hanging.
Was Casino Loss the Cause of Death?
During the inquest, investigators uncovered a note found in the deceased’s room. The note indicated he was deeply distressed after losing a significant amount of money at the casino.
While his death is being treated as an apparent suicide, police confirmed that further investigations into the incident are underway.
Media reports indicate that neither the alleged amount of money lost at the casino nor his identity (other than age and hometown) have been publicly disclosed.
